I Always Did

Another early blog post.

Why?

Because dear blog readers, the Hixx has gone and gotten herself engaged.

Yup! Sweetest John proposed on Friday night. Here is the story, at least as far as I can remember it….

So…let’s go back to Friday, I’m hungover as all get out remember? Yes. Well I get to leave work early and I go home and take a nap, sound asleep when John comes home…

He had told me a few weeks ago he was going to take me to fancy dinner when Apes was done, so we had reservations at Emilio’s for tapas. I was secretly hoping we were just going to stay home and eat cheeseburgers. But poor tired hungover John says “no…let’s just go, it’ll be fun and delicious”.

So we go for tapas and he is indeed right, it was fun and delicious. Previously John had told me he needed to drop some stuff off at the theater (The Playground Theater) for a friend of ours. I complained and complained; only wanting to go home, not go to the Playground! Well we get there, I complain some more (“lets just go inside and get this over with so we can GO HOME” oh if I only had it to do over again!) and he stops me in front of the theater (where we met) and gets down on one knee…I see a flash of red (the box) I hear him speaking some kind of words, I see another flash (the ring) hear more words and look down at him and wonder if he’s really serious. I say some words (“are you serious?” “Are you sure?” “Really?” And of course “yes”) and we smooch and kiss and I’m half crying and I can feel his heart beating through his shirt and we start walking…now John says he still has to drop this stuff off and can we just go to the bar (where we always go) and we can just show a few people the ring and blah…and I say I’m not sure I can even go in there with my hangover and blah blah…we walk in, and BLAM BLAM BLAM, there’s a huge surprise party for me at the Town Hall.

OH MY LORD, I felt like I had been hit almost, in the best possible way. I was SO surprised, there were balloons and noise-makers and all of our friends, one of my oldest and beloved friends, Dan Izzo, is there from Michigan, I see him right away and the tears, oh my lord the tears are falling and I can’t move, I’m standing stock still, I’m sure with tears rolling down my face. I have never been so shocked in my whole life. Everyone was so happy, John so happy, I’m so happy, it was probably the most fun night of my whole life.

Saturday we hung with Dan and made phone calls (none to friends, they were mostly all there!) to brothers and family, we went to see mom and she did her best to hold it together but as soon as the phone rang she went nuts (so fun), we went out again Saturday night for karaoke and food and Sunday I ran around doing things and didn’t sit down till last night around 6.

It was the most wonderful weekend, very surreal, very exciting. I find the lingo that comes with the ring to be very odd…engaged, proposed, fiancĂ©…WEDDING. But oh my lord what fun it all is.

No, we have no ideas on the wedding yet, we’re letting this sink in, John promised nothing till I finish the book, fine with me, I want to enjoy the hell out of all this.

Now, on to the ring, it is PERFECTION. John told me the whole story of getting it, boy didn’t just go in and buy a ring, he knows all about diamonds now, picked it out with such loving care, worked his ass off on picking the right one and it is by far the most beautiful thing I have ever owned in my whole life. Here is a pic, the best I can take without people seeing me taking pictures of my ring…

I truly have the most wonderful boyfriend, I can’t believe what he did for me this weekend and every year we have been together. I never needed a ring or anything to know I was going to be with him for as long as I lived. I was “engaged” to John three years ago, but now its time to tell the world, and the world better shut up and start listening, cause at some point, we’re going to throw a hell of a party.
