Smell the Onion

Things are starting to calm down over here at Hixx Central. The ring is so pretty, I can’t stop looking at it and shoving it John’s face.

I’ve started calling him "fiancé" as his nickname; I think he might hate it. In the words of Susan Messing “If it feels weird, do it more”. Hee.

Pretty much everyone has been told, so no new phone calls to make.

John and I have discovered a whole new world of bits to do now, that’s pretty fun.

And even though he told me we don’t have start planning until the book is done, its fun to think of the little things now…like already my mother is furious with me because I refuse to wear a wedding gown and veil….”WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO WEAR THEN, A BURLAP SACK?”. Yes mom, I’m going to wear a burlap sack.

And I’m now discovering the secret world of married people, a world I was not allowed in before. All of a sudden I have people telling me things I never asked them about, their marriage, their proposals, their weddings, where to get advice, what to do…I don’t mind this talk, it all comes from entering any new territory (kids, marriage…docenting), but its just very weird.

In any case, tonight I have my first lecture at the Architecture Foundation, it is described thusly:

Find out how architects sowed the seeds that made this commercial, industrial city an architectural Mecca. This course traces the growth of Chicago's unique architectural legacy, and considers the built environment in which we live every day. Participants will learn about the development of the skyscraper, as well as the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and other Prairie School architects.

Yay! It’s for the next four Tuesdays, and it’s with my favorite lecturer of our previous docent class, Tim Wittman, who is an instructor at Columbia. This guy is SO AMAZING; he is the smartest man in the world. He can take the price of pork in Europe, to the monolith in 2001 to the science of buttons and make you completely understand Chicago Architecture for about one second till he stops talking and you forget it all and somehow try to explain it to someone else.

I’m very much looking forward to it. Plus, Damages is on tonight.

Tomorrow? I get through the day and then we’re off to LA for a wedding. Fun!
