Okay, I’m ready.
After babies and American Idol (GO HICKS, and by the way, when did AI get such STOOPID songs to give to their two finalists? When I think of Kelly singing “A Moment Like This” it seems so much more powerful, and was a really decent song, those songs last night blew butt, and poor McPhee, even though I want her to lose, her song sucked it the most, longest run on parenthetical sentence ever), it is now time to talk about “rape bathrooms”
I went to the Rivereast 21 on Sunday to go see Stick It/Suck It as I have discussed before.
Now, generally, I don’t worry too much about being raped and murdered. There is some denial there, there has to be, or else I would never leave the house. But even more than that, I think it’s because I’ve been trained my whole life to see my place in the world. I always know when someone is behind me, in front of me, to the side of me. I usually don’t wear headphones while walking, much less bike riding, I check windows to see reflections of who’s behind me, I look at shadows to determine who is around. It’s all part of my nature now, and although sometimes I make stupid mistakes, usually, I’m quite aware of what’s going on around me at all times.
(Also, I learned in a special “sorority” lecture, that if you are ever in danger of getting raped (like the guy is there) then you’re supposed to do something ridiculous, like throw up if you can, or pee, well, my friend once had it happen to her and she got on the ground and moo’d like a cow, apparently it scared the guy off). Geez. Parenthesis and myself are good friends today.
ANYWAY, at the Rivereast movie theater, which is usually pretty crowded cause it has 21 theaters, there’s a nice big bathroom with lots of stalls, just like a good movie house should have. It’s basically a “U” shape, of probably about…huh…maybe 21 bathrooms (one for each theater? Ha!). But almost every time I’ve gone in there, they’re empty. And seriously? You could die in there. They’re tucked away, towards the back of the building, some doors open, some doors closed, you could check each one, but are you really going to?
There are other rape bathrooms around the city, I mean, really, any bathroom could be a rape bathroom. It’s just I think that this one is so enclosed, and there should be so many people around, it should be safe, safer anyway.
I dunno. It’s hot in here.
