Okay okay, who died and made me the depression king of the world? David Blaine?
Huh? I’m not sure who it was that died and made me depression king, but I’m relinquishing or whatever you do with your crown and throwing it down the toi toi. At least for today.
My NYE was fun, we had some misfit friends over for apps and a weird game of quarters played with measuring cups, then off to our bar which was too crowded with long haired hipsters, so we finished off at the theater, dancing and making fun of dancing, which is all we wanted to do in the first place. So, all in all, a fun evening filled with friends and such.
Now over the holidays I got a chance to see many things media-wise. And as I move further along in my writing knowledge, I find that I am the worst critic of any kind out there. I can tell you I liked or didn’t like something, but could never tell you why. So bear with me, as I sort through the list and add whatever kind of insight I can.
1. Book: Prep by Curtis Strenchfield or something like that. Totally addictive book, completely worth reading and will bring you back to high school immediately, if that is ever what you’re looking for.
2. Book: Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray. Not done, but so far so good. I think my favorite plot of all “classic” plots is the poor woman who is not rich enough or have parents to arrange their marriages, so these upstarts have to maneuver the socialite world. So, Vanity Fair has that in spades. Good stuff.
3. Movie: King Kong – of course, good stuff, the beginning was way too long, Brody was way too buff and Naomi was way too charming. But yes, lots of fun. I have nothing left to say about that.
4. Movie: Munich-ugh, wait for the Netflix. Too long. Good acting, Erica Bana was great. It was too long, too philosophical and yes, we all get it; very intense.
5. Movie: Brokeback Mountain- I don’t know if I’ve said it in my blog before, but Heath Ledger rocks. Heath Ledger rocks so hard he’s my new Tom Cruise. I will see anything he does anywhere, any time. He has turned into an amazing actor. Please. Please see Lords of Dogtown if you love Heath Ledger. And of course, A Knights Tale. Brokeback was amazing, but a little cheesy in some places and I’m not sure I got the full impact, if you know what I mean. But yeah, Heath. Mmmm.
6. DVD-24. John and I are pretty much finished with last season’s (the 4th season?) of 24 and I am deeply deeply disappointed. (James, we will discuss). But I have never seen more fallible plot lines, more shoving in of something they think we need and Jack is suddenly like every other Homicide/House/Shield kind of cop-whatever. He used to be different. He used to be the rogue hero…now he’s some kind of whimpy guy who thinks he knows everything. I’m very upset.
7. DVD: Mr & Mrs. Smith. I have nothing to say, I’m too offended. Don’t even look it up on the Netflix, its that bad.
8. DVD: Fierce Grace-the documentary about yogi Ram Daas who had a stroke and is paralyzed on his right side. Even if you don’t care about strokes, or yogi’s, its fascinating to see what a true spiritual man does when faced with such a difficulty. It will lessen your fears of growing old, while reminding you how good you got it now.
9. Video game: Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. Great game, not complicated, scary and playable. Thumbs up.
I think that’s it. I’m reading a lot and can’t keep up with it all.
Nice to be back at work, nice to have things back to normal. Nice so far. As Ram Daas would say (he was very big on being in the NOW).
This moment is okay.
Now this moment is okay.
And now this moment is okay.

Of course, you are wrong about 24. I agree with Jack and wimpy. Hated the girlfriend thing. Can't we have a season without girls? Except Chloe? But who doesn't love Chloe? And the tension? Noelle never forgave the gas station ruse, but we waited each week to see what would happen. Maybe that doesn't happen when you know the next episode is sitting in your DVD player. In sex and 24 there is something to be said for anticipation.
