Bite me

Some may wonder, some may not, how my sweet mommy is. So here’s a quick recap and then on to something way more serious, my bite situation.

My mom is okay, she’s back in Evantston in an assisted living place. She’s good, but bored. She’s healthy (as can be) but frustrated. She still has no use of her left side and now it’s really starting to sink in how screwed she really is. She has a great private nurse who she loves and who we’re all slightly suspicious about, but no matter, she seems to make mom happy most of the time and that’s all we can hope for right now.

Tomorrow night I take her to the theater to see a friend of hers in a show. It’s a bit of a trial run in this thing, so more on that later.

So overall, my mom is good. A little looped, a lot bored, but sweet and funny and well taken care of. Voila.

Now, on to my bite situation. I have 3 or 4 little bites that feel just like mosquito bites. They look like mosquito bites, they itch like mosquito bites and they’re just as annoying as mosquito bites. However, due to John telling me that mosquitos can’t flap their annoying little wings in this cold weather, I know they cannot be squeeter bites.

Spider bites maybe? My friend Kate (HI KATE!) laughed at me when I told her of the proliferation of spiders this fall. IT WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER KATE! But 3 of them? All while I’m sleeping? On different days? It seems unlikely.

Now Kate also said it might be hives. But I went on the self diagnosing websites and my little bites look nothing like these “hives”. I’ve never gotten hives before, I can’t think of anything I’m allergic to and they don’t seem to be getting worse or better, they’re just kinda…bites.

My mom says they’re bedbugs.

Gross.

Here's how to tell if you have bedbugs: lift up your sheets and look for little black spots on the matress, especially near the edges and corners (where they can hide). Bedbugs poop out your blood (yes, gross). If you do have bedbugs, you'll need to treat your mattress and cracks and crevaices in your bedroom with an insecticide that specicially lists bedbugs as among the insects it affects -- most of the ones in the grocery store don't, I had to go to Home Depot to find it.

Well that is distressing.

With much relief, I do not think we have bedbugs. But it's good to know how to deal with them in case we do.
