Where is my little bird? My little nanowrimo bird? Where'd he go? Now's he's just a box with an "x" in it.
Isn't that how it ends for all of us.
Anyhoo, for those of you on the edge of your seats about my introduction tour this week, it went HORRIBLY. Just awful. The only thing that made it even slightly okay was that everyone else was AWFUL too. I tried not to read from my cards and got all twisted around and had to back-tell all my stories, the other guy read every single fact about every single building from his cards. And the last girl didn't know enough and ended up probably being the best out of all of us. That'll show you.
We had a perfectly good time, but my lord, I acted like some kind of crazy woman taking people on tours. Ugh, I have a lot of work to do.
We have a break this weekend and John and I are going to Vegas. I can't wait and even though I love my class, it's awesome awesome to have a break.
When we get back we start working on the Modern Skyscrapers, Mies and all that. Now, I'm certainly, at this point in time, not Mies Van der Rhoe's biggest fan. I find his buildings simplistic and boring. I don't mind some scatterings of them, but they're everywhere.
BUT! I had decided long ago I hated Art Deco, but when it comes to Chicago Art Deco Architecture, I love it now. We learned all about how AD was about joy, money, humor. Shiny Things. The buildings have great whimsey and happiness about them. I'm excited to take a double look at these buildings I blew off.
Maybe the same with Mies. We'll just have to wait and see.
Bachelorette tonight, I missed last week. I will not be missing this week.
