Bye bye Buffy

Okay, I'm done, I did it. I watched all seven seasons of Buffy on my netflix. I read on Salon that they've started calling the great shows that don't get nominated for awards "the Buffys".

It truly is the best show that has been on television.

What amazes me is the fact that the original cast is in the very last episode. The fact that the 6th season I've decided is the strongest season. The fact that the villian in the 7th season was seen as early on in the show as the second season. He was there, in all those episodes, hanging out, throwing a word in here and there, and comes back to haunt us in the end. And the creative way they made serious issues stand out in such a silly way.

The episode of Buffy's mom dying killed me, when Anya a newly formed human from demon expresses her fears and worries about death. Of how Buffy's mother will never have another cup of coffee, it's a killer speech.

Watching Spike profess and be ashamed and proud of his love for Buffy and how she gave in out of self hatred and fear and eventually learned to live with him and care for him, but never really could love him.

How "Hush" is one of the scariest hours of television I have ever seen and 3/4 of the episode was silent.

How frightened and understanding I was when Buffy lost her power. Her difference in her stature when a bunch of men yelled obscenities at her, and she realized she was powerless against them.

How all of the episodes meant something, even if you weren't sure what they were. How true the characters stayed to themselves, from the first episode to the last. The pop culture references, the portrayal of Star Wars nerds, the horror of High School.

I'll miss her, I'll miss all of them. May sound silly, but I don't care.

I heart Buffy.
