Showering

WOW!Excellent!

The shower has passed and as the start of the opening ceremonies, I think it went very well.

I got mom and we headed into the city for the shower, it was held at one of John’s aunt’s condo and it was beautiful, the view is gorgeous, Chicago and lake…very cool. I swear every female member of John’s family was there, my friends and my mom’s friends; everyone was there (as we arrived um…a little late). There were flowers and food and women! SO MANY WOMEN! I don’t think I’ve ever really been in a room with just women.

A friend of mine later said (HI WENDY!) “I really think it was a success, but I found myself saying inappropriate things” and I could not have agreed with her more. For my whole life, when cornered in the name of entertaining other people, the quickest response is the dirty response, or the offensive response, or the inappropriate response and it was no different here. I noticed some laughed and some didn’t…I think that’s a fine average.

So handsome John came in and was so cute and funny and while Sabrina (who was an awesome Best Woman) and I headed home with the mountains of gifts, John took his parents on the wedding loop, to see the hotel and boat and rehearsal dinner. Saturday night we went to a friend’s birthday and I basked in her attention, happy to sit quietly and eat 18 more pieces of cake.

Sunday turned out to a really sweet, quiet, romantic and enlightening day. We slept and slept and rode bikes to bloody marys and breakfast. Then we headed home to watch TV and putter around and half-clean and half do work and every once in awhile we’d head into the bedroom and lie on the bed and listen to the quiet of the out of town crazy upstairs neighbors and one of those episodes, with John cuddled up, a fresh beautiful breeze coming in through the window, the beautiful day outside, the ceiling fan circling slowly around I thought to myself “This is exactly what I hoped for myself.”

Lying on that bed, with a handsome hilarious and sexy man, the greatest dog in existence at our feet, in a pretty apartment in the greatest city in the world, coming off a weekend of friends and family expressing their love, I just took note of a 16 year old girl hoping for the best for herself, and seeing a 38 year old who had gotten it.

So, I’m very pleased and happy. Thank you to you guys for your well wishes and support!

Now, on to the bachelorette party!
