Holding at 148 everyone, holding at 148. Yip! I took that week off from exercising and started back last night, felt awesome.
I would like to make a formal welcome to Mr. Martin Izzo, welcome to the world Mr. Izzo, you have the greatest parents in the world. I’m jealous.
A quick side note, sometimes being friends with funny people, and living in a family that takes care of all of its problems with humor, leads to being teased about things that aren’t really funny, or that one is genuinely upset about. Grrrrr. Sometimes, it’s nice to be taken seriously about one’s feelings….just throwing that out there. Umkay?
Okay, so here’s what I’ve been thinking a lot about this week:
Vegetarianism.
Yup.
The Queen of Cheeseburgers is thinking about making a switch. I want to make sure in my head that I’m doing this for the right reasons, and not because it’s neat or hip or cool or none of those things. I’m working on educating myself about it, reading a lot, and yes, I even watched one of those horrible videos, and here is what I’ve come up with so far:
1. Health- Dr. Oz says that meat literally rots in your stomach. It sits there and rots. That’s how it gets digested, it rots. That is foul. I haven’t quite gotten to milk and dairy products yet, I’m even more scared of this, because I love milk and dairy products. And of course things like hormones and diseased cows being designated as Grade A beef, blejrkl;asjkdfl;dsjakl, oh my lord it makes me feel gross just thinking about it.
2. Tortured animals – there is just no denying that this happens. The video I saw was pretty horrifying, as it was meant to be, I get that. But the fact is, is that maybe a turkey can’t “think” or “reason” but it can suffer, you better believe it. And I find that it’s really the pig stuff that bothers me the most. The pig is not so far away from the dog in terms of intelligence, and man oh man, were the pigs getting the worst of the treatment. Oh man.
3. Green footprint – the amount of land needed to provide for one cow is ridiculous. The water, the grains, everything that needs to be done so I can have one cheeseburger is ridiculous.
4. Spiritually – there are some things my mind is focusing on as I move into more meditation and more connection with myself and the things around me, and it just doesn’t fit anymore to eat fellow living creatures.
5. A shakeup – I want to change my eating “habits.” I want to get out of the rut that I’m in, the reward systems, my “go-to’s”, the things I eat to make myself feel better, and move to eating for sustenance, for pleasure, but also for fuel. If I were to undertake this, I would need to learn more about my food, where it comes from, how to cook it, what I like and how I deal with my life by eating.
So…these are things I’m thinking about, what I think will probably happen, or how I see it now is that I give up all meats, still stick with cheese/dairy/eggs for now….and also occasionally eat a cheeseburger when I really want one.
I think its kind of hypocritical to go “halfsies” on vegetarianism, it’s almost like if I say I’m going to do all these things for the above reasons, that I should really go vegan and cut it out altogether.
But I also know you go one step at a time. I’m not about to cut out all animal products from my diet, when that has been the staple of my life for 37 years. And I also think it’s about working and figuring out what’s best for me.
So, we’ll see. If anyone has any recommendations on books, or anything interesting like that, lemme know…I’ve just started this fancy journey.

I haven't been here for quite a bit, but I'm back with more motherly advice. There is a great book called The Gradual Vegetarian, and I am too lazy to go downstairs and look for it, but I highly recommend it. Great motivation and some easy recipes. Don't tell yourself you are an all or nothing because it will drive you bonkers! Have a great day. Get well wishes to John.
i like your approach to this, VIShixx. i'm too tired to say much more. but as usual, you're my hero today.
mental p mama, thanks for the book suggestion. that will end up to be helpful to me as well.
Impressive!!
When I do buy meat, I try really hard to make sure it is organic or cruelty-free or free-range, but sadly that gets so darn expensive.
I was veg for about 5 years but wasn't taking the time to cook properly and my immune system went to hell. But I think it is a fabulous lifestyle if you do it right. :)
Thanks Mental P, I shall check out the book, that sounds just like me! Glad to have you reading again.
Smuss, maybe this should be our book for book club!
Waflen, absolutely something to remember. Gotta make sure things stay balanced.
