Consenting Adults

FRIDAY!
Man, I’m really happy for this particular Friday. No reason, just glad it’s Friday.

I have a slow weekend ahead, going to see mom, do a little shopping, party tomorrow night, and Sunday we’re going to register! So that’s kinda fun I think.

By the time Monday rolls around I will be done, finally, with Advise and Consent by Allen Drury. I think this is the longest I have taken with a book ever. It is an AWESOME book. If you are even mildly interested in the inner workings of the United States Senate, you need to get up on this book. In one of my favorite novelist moves, Drury slogs through the first half. It’s interesting, don’t get me wrong, he somehow manages to familiarize you with a large number of senators, teaches you how things work and lays the groundwork for the awesome second half. I always love that, where you just struggle and struggle to get through a book, and you’re reading and you’re wondering where in the sam hell this is going and you’re bored and considering putting it down and BAM, author has you by the girl-balls and you can’t pull your head out of it for even one minute….I love that.

Drury is also a MASTER of not telling you everything, but telling you everything you need to know. Some of these senators have dirty little secrets, but Drury never tells you exactly what they are, but you know full well what they are…fabulous.

This is a book that I have talked to out loud. That doesn’t happen often. Some books I’ll cry, or laugh out loud (I have done both with this) but I found myself at lunch today actually talking to the book (“oh god don’t!” “oh no” “oh god oh god oh god”), which is extremely fun.

Also by the time Monday arrives I will have passed my 5 month not smoking mark! HOORAY FOR ME! Barely think of it anymore. I still love the smell, I’m not sure that will ever go away, I’m one of the few non smokers in America that takes a HUGE whiff while I walk by someone smoking, but I don’t want one, don’t plan on wanting one and am happy and proud to be at 5 months.

I'm so glad you are registering after all. it's so much fun! Jason and I were so bad at it. We ended up getting like three fitted sheets and no top sheets. But we had a blast.

i didn't have the smell smoking thing for the first year, but i had a real white-light experience with the smoking thing that i think is *highly* unusual.

otherwise, i think it's super normal. sniff up, johnnie!
