Okay, I’d like to preface this I’m So Hot Thursday with a little “He’s So Hot Thursday”.
John hasn’t gotten much love in the blog lately, but not for lack of being awesome. Because he is…awesome, in so many ways. Engagement looks good on my Beyonce. He’s been working so hard on a lot of things in his life lately, improvements he wants made, and he hasn’t just been talking, he’s been working his ass off to get them. And after not much time (but what may have seemed like a long time to him), things are really coming together for him, and I’m really proud. He is an incredible friend to me, he takes extremely good care of me and the dog and our little family. He brings me magazines and treats; he makes tofu silk pie and makes sure our bed is so warm. And although wedding plans are going slowly, (so slowly, I think we’re both scared to start, because that will mean we have to keep going!) the real impact of marriage (gulp) is affecting us both, not just in terms of planning a big ole party, but in terms of planning our lives…together. Cliché? Maybe. True? Absolutely. So…shout out to me boyfriend. ‘Cause he deserves it.
Enough about him, lets talk about ME.
Okay, so yeah, coming back from Vegas and boy are my arms tired! Whoo golly! I did another two mile run last night and went to the track by my house. Although a little less to look at, it was kind of interesting running on the track. It felt better on my feet, which was nice, and kind of nice to count down the laps, but that also means you’re counting laps instead of just running. And I definitely had a better time because no stopping and starting at curbs and stuff.
I still had a really hard time running the two miles last night, just goes to show how consistent I need to be with the running, and I’ve read that too, with running, if you keep skipping a week here or there, it’s just going to take so long to improve. So, I’m in full swing now.
One thing though, I am starting to have some knee pain (Hi Erica! I’m being careful), I just bought my shoes this summer, could I need new ones already? Anyone have any good stretches or anything?
I don’t want to hurt anything; I’m just getting the knack for this running thing. So any advice would be great.
Oh, and Dr. Oz says that you will not lose anything if you don’t strength train, that the building up of muscle is what eats up calories, so you can run and run and run and if you don’t strength train, you’ll be healthier for sure, but the weight won’t really come off. So…I guess I’m going to have to start doing that…and, it will probably help protect me from injury anyway right? Huh.

Thanks for the shout out!
Ok, so I'm not a runner, but I did used to be a dancer, and have dealt with knee dislocations and the like, so I have some leggy advice. I know some good stretches, but I may have to show you those in person (or I can write them out and email them to you.) Counter stretching is always good. Many people suggest using a foam roller to roll out your butt and thighs (see this awesome diagram drawn by andrea swanson here http://fuzzyco.com/news/running/taking_care_of_the_itb.html) (not to keep comparing you to Fuzzy.)
Most of all, congrats! Running is so hard and takes such dedication, so I applaud you!
xoxo
You cute thing.
Thanks for your support, even if you do keep comparing me to fuzzy (I think I'm much more handsome really) and when I see you again, which won't be long because it never is, you can teach me some dancer stretches!
I think what I really need to do is build up my other muscles too, they've been ignored.
I'm not an expert, but these are my tips:
They say you should replace your shoes every 300 or 500 miles (something like that). So, it might be time for a new pair? I don't replace my shoes that often, though ... even though I should.
If you get new shoes, go somewhere like Fleet Feet and they can watch you run and tell you if you overpronate or have any other step things that maybe your shoes can help correct.
Lastly, strength training - esp quads - can help with knee stability.
RunnersWorld online has some great articles and advice in the forums section, too.
