Well, I had a really interesting post planned about all the very cool things I learned in my architecture class last night, but I can’t remember a thing the guy said because I was so fascinated and he’s so brilliant that now…it’s all just gone. What I do remember, is by the end of class, he’s screaming at us in a most joyful way about how Louis Sullivan said “the seed is the thing” his basis for “form follows function”, about how each seed already knows what it is going to grow up to be, so should buildings and that what Sullivan was really trying to do, but didn’t have the words for…was talk about genetics, which wasn’t really publicly written about until 60 years later.
What a great class.
So instead, I’m going to do a meme I got from Word, I like memes…bring it on. Here’s the latest
List 5 things that certain people (who are not deserving of being your friend anyway) may consider to be "totally lame," but you are, despite the possible stigma, totally proud of. Own it. Tag 5 others:
1. Cool segue, let’s just start with architecture. Now, it’s not uncool to like and be interested in architecture, but it is nerdy to be a docent at CAF and talk about it with 50 other people who are 30 years older than you are. But they’re the only people who will talk to me about it, so there you go. I teared up a few times last night, learning more about Sullivan and Wright, how hard their lives were, how fucked up they were, how ahead of their time they were, and how they built this city to be the city I love more than any other in the world.
2. I’m stealing it from Word, but its mine too, and in a more general sense…television. Man, I’m so tired of hearing from hipsters about how evil television is. Get over it. I could discuss the choices of ANTM all night long…and have. I think Survivor is one of the best shows ever produced. I will be racing home tomorrow night from work, eschewing my boyfriend so I can watch Gossip Girl, Survivor, The Hills and Damages. I love television, and even more than that, I love talking about television. So sue me.
3. Chicago. Again, not really nerdy to love your city, but when a day like today makes you burst out in tears, maybe it’s going just a little too far. Looking around my apartment is a veritable tour of the city, we have posters, art institutes, pictures, metal Sears Tower replicas and John and I were just talking about in LA if I were to get another tattoo it would no doubt be an awesome Louis Sullivan design. My love for this city borders on the psychotic.
4. King Henry VIII. Don’t know, it’s like my love for Vegas…it comes out of nowhere and leads me to believe that I had a former life in the Kings Court. I’m not saying I was Anne Boleyn or nuthin’, but I was some kind of courtesan, doing it in dank hallways with sons of earls and dukes, trying to make my marriage fruitful. I love all those books by Phillipa Gregory and will watch any PBS show on the handsome king who got a big sore on his leg.
5. My love for the dog. I have to keep it quiet sometimes, so as not to freak people out. But man oh man, I love our dog. He’s changed my life in a lot of ways. I’m definitely calmer and quieter with him, when our cuddle time kicks in it’s a certain kind of heaven nuzzling his furry, warm head. The morning has become a whole different ball of wax now, laughing at him running in the yard at 6:30 in the morning is a much better way to wake up then swearing at my alarm clock. I stay home some nights on purpose just to “spend time with the dog”. I want him to feel safe and happy and warm, and I think I’m just the person to provide it. Little button dog.
5.5. I love my ring. Materialistic? Maybe. Proud? Yes! Is it the prettiest thing I own or will probably ever own? YES! I love it, and I’ll flash the hell out of it to anyone who will look at it. It's just so damn sparkly.
Oh and who am I tagging? Let's see, elizabeth and ralph, gena, crescent...I'm only doing three, cause I gotta go.
