Soft Core

Yesterday morning as I was happily rifling through the Sunday Trib and I see a frightening article about “soft addictions”.

Now, I’ve said it before, I consider myself a fairly addictive personality. I think I’ve skated through most rough patches; I’m actually lucky I got out of college consciously. I’ve got alcoholics galore in my family but I believe I’m safely out of that danger zone. But I think if I just stopped thinking for a little while, I could be addicted to just about anything besides coffee.

So I’m looking at this list of soft addictions and I just start laughing, so oh my gosh, lets review shall we?

Here they are:

- Procrastination
Well, yes, I definitely have this one. I call it “working well under pressure” but yeah, most people would call it procrastination.

- Watching too much television.
Um…yes? You all know which blog you’re reading right? So definitely check this one off the list.

- Acting moody, such as being grumpy, cranky or overly happy.
Again, I like to cover this soft addiction as “emotional” or “I feel a lot”, both of which are a load. John says I hide my moodiness pretty well, doesn’t mean I don’t feel it. So yes to this one.

- Overeating.
Have you ever finished a box of Cheez Its all by yourself? I have.

- Shopping impulsively.
I don’t shop much, but when I do it’s definitely on impulse. Pretty much everything I own has been an impulse buy.

- Daydreaming excessively.
This goes hand in hand with procrastination. And can now be covered up with The Secret (I'm not daydreaming, I’M VISUALIZING DAMMNIT!), but lets face it, I do spend a lot of time thinking of ways that my life should be…

- Complaining excessively.
Again, this is more internal than external, but really, I’m complaining pretty much all the time. Whether its from the general American public not being able to ride an escalator to the fact that winter really is cold, I definitely do this…check it off.

- Surfing the Internet excessively.
I’ll admit I don’t do this at home, I’m usually too busy watching TV (see number 2) but at work, I definitely surf excessively and feel the need to check my email every five seconds.

-Overworking.
YAY! Here’s one I don’t have. I love how the only “soft addiction” I don’t have is the one releated to working. This cracks me up. Even in my addictions I am lazy.

Congratulations Hixx, 9 out of 10, not so bad eh?
