In the 2+ years I’ve been blogging, I would be hard-pressed to find an entry on a Monday of a hung-over Hixx. So maybe this is a first and, please God, let it be the last.
The weekend was a fun one, a Playground party on Friday, an old friend back in town, a lazy Saturday, and a vigorous cleaning of our apartment on Sunday, it looks so pretty.
Then I met some friends at Sidetrack on Sunday afternoon for Showtunes night. They play all the best in new and old musicals, huge video screens show a young and less weird Liza belting out New York New York and everyone knows every word, and sing like no one’s listening. I’d been once before and remember it as one of the most fun days of my life. I was most excited to go again, with fun friends and a whole new lineup of showtunes to sing.
It started off tamely enough, we arrived about 5:00, I had a beer, and some friends got some drinks.
I believe the trouble began with Allan Cumming singing Cabaret and a kind young man passing out some sort of blueberry vodka shot, free for the taking.
As we saddled up to the bar and began ordering more drinks, the bar filled, the songs started rockin’ and they gay men started pounding on tables.
Before I knew it I was standing in the middle of THE den of iniquity. Our bartender screaming our names as he donned different wigs for different numbers, one for Dreamgirls, another for Annie, the men we were with started smoking cigarettes when they had promised early on that they were not smoking, then proceeded to fall of their chairs, napkins flying during the Titanic scene, people buying shots, bartenders buying shots, Wicked soundtracks, Rocky Horror, girls kissing girls, boys kissing boys and boys and girls kissing each other, drinks were flying, songs were jamming and the poor Hixx got caught up in all the debauchery.
I was planning on being home by seven. I arrived home at 11:30.
I’m struggling today, I won’t lie.
But for the second time, Showtunes night at Sidetrack provided me with one of the most fun times I’ve had in my life.
The hangover is almost worth it.
Almost.
