No Way!

Well, we could definitely call this my best birthday ever. By far. And why? Why? I'll tell you.

After dinner last night my brother and his new lady stopped by to watch Project Runway. I was antsy because I had to wait for my presents from John! John's been known to give some pretty great presents, and I was excited.

The moment my brother left I demanded my presents. He showed me three flat, wrapped pieces and told me the last one, very little, was just a representation of my "big" present, and the actual one would be here tomorrow if I wanted to wait to open it.

"I'm opening it tonight" I say.

My first present is a beautiful book on Chicago architecture. Really, a beautiful book.

My second present is unbelievable. Another beautiful book, but this time, of all the Chicagoist pieces that I've written, bound beautifully together. It must have taken him forever, and its so sweet, so I start crying. I can't believe what an amazing thoughtful boyfriend I have. It really is beautiful.

With tears still in my eyes, John hands me the third present. It's flat and small, and I open it, waiting to see what it is thats coming for me tomorrow.

And I see a Gen Con brochure. Thinking John's losing his mind and wrapped the wrong thing, or thinking this is maybe my badge for GenCon, John says:

"We're not going to GenCon".

I think, oh no, something went wrong, we're not going anywhere...

"We're getting on a plane tomorrow morning and flying to Vegas. We're staying at the Luxor". (The Luxor was our favorite the last time we were there).

WHA?

Really?

REALLY?

REALLY????!!!!!

John and I leave in roughly two hours to hop on a plane to Vegas for 3 days!

He knew the whole time. Knew we weren't going to Indy, knew we weren't going to Gen Con, knew I wasn't going to be a 24 hour D&D competition.

So for all you ladies out there, know that this does happen, there are men like this, and surprises like this aren't just for people in the movies.

This is just about the coolest thing that's ever happened to me.

See you cats on Monday, I got some gambling to do.

MAN! This made ME cry! I love you guys. I don't even know John, but I love you both so much right now. I hope you have the time of your lives just like Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley.
