Dervish

Whirlwind weekend my friends, whirlwind weekend.

First off, a happy birthday to John. He’s 35 as of yesterday and as we kinda went through his life and where he stands, we were both really happy to see what an amazing life he has made for himself. Struggles? Yes of course, but he’s amazing and we had a really nice birthday day. He’s not big on his birthday, so really nice to just enjoy ourselves. And of course, he has the most fabulous girlfriend on the planet, so yeah, he’s a lucky guy.

Friday night we went to dinner, then I broke off to meet the ladies for drinks. It’s no lie that lady time dies down once you meet your man and especially move in, it just doesn’t happen as often as it should and our lady time on Friday was a blast. Lots of women in very different places, but amazing how we bolster each other up, make each other laugh and gab gab gab. It was just very pleasant and easy.

Saturday I went and did a bunch of writing for a couple of hours at the Caribou Coffee and I was finally that person I wanted to be, had to get a writing assignment done, sitting with my huge tea on a cloudy blustery day, it was perfect and I got a ton done.

Saturday night we went to Buca with John’s parents for garlic with some pasta in it, delish, and promptly went home and fell asleep on the couch when we were supposed to go out and go to a party. I should have known before that Buca is an automatic “you’ll never go out after this, never” kind of place, but with the wind and the snow and the full, well, we just couldn’t get up.

Sunday early breakfast, then some time with friends, then I did even more work on the writing thing, which just makes me feel good. Then John made the most wonderful birthday dinner of lobster tails (thanks to my boss!), broccoli and fries, all on slices of bread, just like the Mainers would do it.

Then we vegged, big time.

So all in all, a busy but productive but fun weekend.

Tonight, more hard shell swimmers, as we meet the boys for birthday dinner at the Half Shell.

YUM.

Oooh, tell John Happy Birthday! We missed you Friday, but I don't know how many nights I, too, have fallen asleep and been unable to get up. You guys rule.
