Holy Toledo batman. Being a “writer” is not that easy! But hell, its fun. And its fun using my brain to make connections and think and work through things.
But today my friends. Today I want to talk about Eight Below.
The new dog movie.
Lets just say for sure that I can’t watch this kinda stuff. I watched Homeward Bound once and it just about put me over the edge. Prancer’s another one. Its just animals in trouble, it kills me and I can’t even watch the previews for Eight Below.
John and I discussed the movie and like any good story tellers, or humans, could tell the whole story without even seeing it. The dogs get stuck in the storm, they can only save the humans. Paul Walker (mkay, he's hot, but dumb, new Keanu) knows that these dogs are “family” and yells at the unbelievers to go get his dogs.
So the dogs struggle and we know one of them has to die. It’s gotta be the old one, so we don’t feel too badly, and most likely it will be the old one in the process of saving the young, cocky one who hasn’t found his footing yet.
Then John came up with the end, and if anyone has seen it, please tell me if this is right: They set down, after the big storm, they come back to look for the dogs. Paul Walker stands in the blowing snow, thinks he sees something but isn’t sure, then he sees the “all white” dog’s big blue eyes, strains a bit and then all eight (whoops, seven now) running towards him in a big rush. He’s gotta be right, I know he is.
I have to admit, I have a bit of tear just thinking about it.
Oh, and happy valentines day everyone! We switched ours to march 9 a few years ago, just to be half rebels. But to everyone else, BE MINE.
