Kings advice

4:09 on a Tuesday.

Ahh, new jobs are such good things.

I went out to lunch today with the ladies here, I never like going out to lunch with my boss’s and such, but it felt nice today. I loves me new job.

So I’ve been reading Stephen King’s book “On Writing” (This is how I knew to put the ‘s after boss in the above sentence, he said NEVER do it boss’.)

It’s great too, he’s so easy to read, and the fellow has a sense of humor. He gives a small history of how and why he got into writing. How the ideas for Carrie and the Stand came up. And then he gives some really practical advice. Always try to use action sentences instead of passive ones.

“The door was closed by Andy” Passive
“Andy closed the door” Active

He hates adverbs too, always says we should cut out the adverbs. Good to know.

He says plot and themes and such come with time. Get yourself a character or a situation and the rest comes from there. As long as you keep writing.

And of course he says, stop watching tv and start reading. I love reading, I read a lot, especially these days with no docent program. But he’s right, less tv, more reading.

Now I just have to get writing. I’m doing my national novel writing month in Nov. and that will be a good thing. But I have to figure out how to do it each and every day. I just wish I had some great idea. Some perfect story idea.

I have a few so far. One of them being my moms idea I would love to get down, cause it’s such a sad story.

And a laptop.

I want a laptop.
