Life had BETTER reward action

Mr. Lonnie Bunch

Dear Mr. Bunch,

My name is Margaret Hicks and I am a member of the CHS and a docent at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. I am writing to you for your help and assistance in something that is quite important to me at this time.

I have just recently finished the docent program and am on my way to being a full-fledged docent. My passion for the program, for Chicago and for it’s history is not only blossoming under this knowledge, but it’s growing and growing, so quickly I can’t get my hands on enough information!

My passion for this city is unparalleled (ask my friends, they’re ears are drooping with my passionate talk of Burnham and Sullivan ) and I find, as I get deeper and deeper into the history of this most beautiful city, the more I want to learn and the more passionate I become.

I have searched my soul for the past year, for the thing that will bring me the most joy in my professional career. I know now my joy is where I live, the history of it and the possibility of learning more and teaching more.

I’m asking you if there is a place for me there, a position where I would fit and prosper. I ask that you look at my resume, at the wide variety of cultural, not for profit and professional experience that I have. I have extensive experience with memberships and subscriber bases, volunteer training and recruiting, I am a public speaker, a public teacher, and I am an admin, a manager, and a fax machine fixer.

This is the only letter of this kind I am writing. There are other institutions that interest me, but nothing as much as this. To be working for the Chicago Historical Society is honestly a dream that I believe I can achieve. I would be your hardest worker, your most strident supporter and I also happen to have a great sense of humor and great common sense.

So please consider me, for anything you might have open, I would hope to come in and introduce myself to you and show you further the passion I have for the work that I do and the work that you do. I know you are a busy man who is completely renovating his museum, but I’d love to believe that I can help you make that job even slightly easier.

Thank you for your time and thank you no matter what for the work that you do. I hope to be speaking with you soon.

So be it.
