Grander and Statelier than ever.

Okay, I listened to the editors of the new Encyclopedia of Chicago on Milt Rosenberg last night. It was awesome and sounds like this Encyclopedia is too cool. Milt Rosenberg (WGN) is too funny, he's hopping all over himself, trying to remember everything.

Anyhoo, they were talking about poor Kathy O'Leary and whether the story of her cow kicking over the lantern was true. I was just reading about this at the same time and what's so sad is, that after the fire, she had to become a recluse. That people were always all over here and making up interviews and things that she never gave. And of course, 99% chance that it was not her cow at all, there are a million reasons why that fire started and became so huge, 99% of which had nothing to do with Kathy O'Leary.

And give thanks once again to Mr. Ogden, for after the fire he again was the one that sunk money back into the city, without it, we may never have risen again. And through the torment of the fire, the people of the city decided that it was a blessing in disguise to be able to raise this city again.

Curious though, they were talking about the origin of the phrase "Second City". I thought it was because they built this city again after the fire, NOT that it was second to dirty ole NYC. I may have to do some more research on that...........

Dirty New York.
