S’been a busy day, lots going on here, everyone busy or busy looking busy. Personally, I like the busy, days zoom by lately. Ah.
So, the weekend was nice, had a hard time with my mom however. The magazines didn’t quite go over as planned and I think they ended up making mom sadder than if I hadn’t brought them. She’s so tied up in her mind, and unable to loosen those ties. It’s mildly heartbreaking, and her relationship with my stepfather (who really is the king of jags, I’m not trying to be mean here, but he really is) is so icky, no wonder I almost throw up trying to buy wedding magazines. My mom and stepfather are about as far away as you can get from “happy marriage.”
As we bantered back and forth, her mind was stuck on my stepfather “running” the wedding. See, I never told mom John and I are paying for it because I thought it would upset her, that she’d want to do this for me (but she cannot), and she just kept going on and on about Al running the wedding and so I finally told her that Al is running nothing anymore (jag) and that she doesn’t need to cowtow to anyone or say anything or do anything because John and I have it all settled.
Then she turned to me and said,
“Can I be on your side then?”
And with quite a few tears I promised that yes, indeed, she can be on our side.
And the wedding moves forward….
