So wow, what a weekend.
Friday night me friend Sabrina took me to see this Edward Gorey show at Theater on the Lake. Going to Theater on the Lake is very fun, because its just so odd to go to the beach to go to the theater. However, the Gorey show was not all that good. They overdid a LOT. I always think of Gorey as refined, dry, sarcastic, scary, these guys were jumping and rolling all over the place, funny voices, funny stances, running willy nilly across the stage, it was just too much. Gorey never needed to explain himself that way. But, the ladies still had a pretty good time.
Saturday I rode my bike to and from Evanston to see my Ma. Man oh holy god mother, that was some kind of ride. Coming home, in the heat, battling the wind, I figured it was possible that I might just die on the bike path. But I didn’t die, I made it, and my humdinger of a boyfriend had a Gatorade waiting for me in the freezer. This is why people should fall in love, so that they can have someone so brilliant as to put a Gatorade in the freezer for you. Smooch to him.
We hung out Saturday night, played with our friends and the video machine at the Town Hall. I cannot keep my hands off that machine. Photo Hunt has taken over my whole life.
Then yesterday was a day of finishing what John started. There were loads and loads of laundry done, floors were cleaned, tubs were scrubbed and John and I both feel like we might just be adults right now, taking care of the things we were to have taken care of! Such a nice feeling.
I watched Charlotte’s Web, the one with Ms. Julia Roberts as Charlotte and that little Dakota Fanning as Fern. It was …. okay. Of course I cried through the whole thing, but that is never a measure of how good a movie is, otherwise Elf would be in my top 5. It would have been fabulous had Babe not been made before it (and made much better), but man oh man it took me back to the old days. I still know that book backwards and forwards. Some pig.
Then I watched a ton of Man vs. Wild, because…well…that’s what I do now.
Working hard, sloughing off holiday weekends, back into the massive amount of work it takes to write a book (who knew?) and learning how to play a certain instrument before a certain ape judges me.
Am I done yet?

why am i not hanging out with you more?
man vs. wild ... let's see. i start watching it and then i turn it off for other things. why? because it's dirty jobs guy in mega dangerous sitches and it makes me muy nervosa. not to mention i vascillate between 'oh my god, he really could die' and 'there's camera crews here and the episode is going to end, so he's not REALLY going to die, right?' i mean, if everyone got all pissed about 'crash' manipulating their emotions (me not so much), then, i'm sorta pissed about man vs. wild. and i end up turning it off before it gets. too. bad.
but, the real reason i know we're the best of friends who never hang out is ... photo hunt. holy shit. i was up visiting the p's once and i was at the bar with mom and actually sis, too. we all were sort of bored (which is kind of unusual at the bar -- usually there's SOMETHING of interest going on ), and my mom started playing photo hunt. my sister and her friend, melissa started, too. i was totally uninterested. yawners. this was probably due to the fact that my mom has a tendency toward a marge simpsonesque addiction toward gambling machines, which this machine doubled as.
but, this photo hunt shit? A-DDICT-TIVE. i'm with ya, sistah.
*oh, i know it's not dirty jobs guy, but it seems like him only gruffer.
Now Smuss, please to keep your hot men straight. Mike Rowe is the Dirty Jobs guy, Bear Grylls is the Man vs. Wild guy.
I love Bear, I love him because he's not trying to be some manly stud, he's really kind of sweet and vulnerable, but like a modern day James Bond who knows how to get out of every situation. Watching him eat a fish straight out of the water, or hacking off the poisonous part of a scorpion and shoving it in his mouth is bizarre and awesome.
I love Bear Grylls. And Mike Rowe. Shoot, I love everyone.
We shall play Photo Hunt at the Town Hall someday.
