I'm So Hot Thursday!

So let’s see, I finished a book called “The Interloper” by Antoine Wilson. I read about it in the New Yorker (not EW as I had originally thought). Quick read, good read, about the descent into madness. I love books like this.

It’s a very simple book, very stark, straight forward, but with a couple of really cool lines, like this one: “Every moment contains within it the seeds of its own destruction”. Nice. Especially in a tale of losing one’s mind. Very simple this book, but fascinating.

So now I move on to “Climb” by Anatoli Boukreev (thanks for the rec Megan!), by one of the climbers who was on the ill-fated Krakauer expedition. Something about that Everest.

ANYWAY, I’m So Hot Thursday right?

Let’s see where I stand, or sit…if I had my druthers.

Weight: 148
Running stats: 4.6-4.7 for 35 minutes.
Favorite running song this week: Just Can’t Get Enough by Depeche Mode

There, I like my new little format.

SO OKAY! HUH? I come here, I start telling all you blog readers I’m not losing any weight and BOOM! I start losing. I should have started doing ISHThursdays a long time ago! Down a pound and a half from last week. Fine by me.

I can’t help thinking it was the upping of my time that sparked it.

Which leads me to my next conundrum….

I upped my speed again this week and will up my time again by 5 minutes next week. BUT! I run exclusively on the treadmill. If I up my time another 5 minutes for next week, that puts me on the treadmill for 50 minutes at a time. No problem by me, but my lord, musn’t it be a problem for the lady that lives below us? We have nowhere really to put the treadmill besides where it is (the dining room), I know it must bug her. It would bug me; I can’t imagine it’s very quiet down there.

I feel bad running for 50 minutes.

So, what’s the natural answer?

Go outside.

But I’m scared! What if I can’t do it? What if people laugh at me? What if all this stamina and pride I’ve built up all goes to shit outside? What if I end up running a block and getting really tired?

I’m honestly a little nervous about it, and the other thing is, I can’t keep track of what I’m doing outside, unless I go get some gizmo that helps. But I can’t really track my speed or how far I’m running. I really like being able to see every week exactly how much I’ve improved.

I know I know, I would probably enjoy running outside, and a gizmo to tell me these stats isn't so hard to acquire.

But it scares me.

I’ll maybe give it a shot this upcoming cool weekend. I’ve read that its actually better for you because it works more of your muscles - going up curbs, down curbs, running around things - it makes you stronger and then…safer, because you’re not using the exact same muscles over and over.

I’ll let you know. But suffice it to say I’m quite pleased by the last couple of weeks. It’s nice to see that effing scale go down, and it feels nice to be running at a semi-decent pace, now it almost feels like I’m actually “running”.

You can totally do it! Fuzzy is training for the marathon this year, and he has been running a lot on the lakepath. He loves running outside. I bet it will be good for you to get some fresh air, too. Maybe take Remo running with you!? Fuzzy is using the Nike Plus system, and he is talking about his progress a lot at Fuzzyco.com if you want to read a fellow runner's experiences. But keep up the great work!

Thanks Erica!

I've been reading Fuzzy's blog. I'm amazed the dude is already running 10 miles! Ack! But we all go at our own pace right?

Man, I'm going to have to go outside!

i honestly don't know how you can't do it outside. i need some air moving past my head, and my natural voyeurism gets to play.
