Another quiet Friday.
So…how’s the running you might ask me? And I would answer, well, its kind of going SPLENDIDLY!
And I cannot stress enough how completely weird it is for me to be running. It really has just never been my thing. But I’ve hit a real good place with it. I’m now up to 30 minutes, no stopping whatsoever. Before I would stop for maybe 30 seconds or so, about 4 times during my run, but now I’ve really got it up to a nice, solid 30 minutes. No messing around. So my goal now is to increase my speed. Because even though I’m running for 30 minutes, I’m running VERY slowly, which is okay by me. I don’t mind so much because I’m so impressed I’m running at all. I would just like to up my calories, up my speed and soon maybe do a 5K. But that’s still a bit far in the future.
It’s just so strange, to be at 25 minutes and still be feeling pretty good. And its way fun to see the difference. Again, my weight hasn’t gone down much (I still eat too much, lets not fool ourselves) but just to see the actual change in how far I can run, and how not painful it is anymore is really inspiring. And of course, like Rhonda Byrne knows, good begets good. I got my bike back, I’m going to ride to work on my off days, I’m actually motivated to up my speed just because I know it can really make a difference, I feel great when I’m done running, it feels good to stretch out my old bones, etc.
Now what I’m also trying to do is incorporate some strength training. It’s harder, because I have no fancy inner thigh machines (except for John, hee) and no fancy weight machines, so everything I do has to be body weight. Which is hard. It’s much easier to go pretend you’re working it on a machine than trying to lift up your whole huge body with your stomach muscles, but I don’t want to hurt myself and I know that I need to build up my leg muscles and core so I don’t hurt my knees, etc.
Also, I’ve finally hit the mark where I decided I could and should get some good running shoes from Fleet Feet, I wanted to wait, make sure I was really into this before I went and spent the money, and against everything that I am, a genealogic (is that a word?) history of not exercising and an abhorrence of anything that makes me sweat, I’m into it.
Happy Friday everyone!
