You Spyn Me Right 'Round

What a weekend I had. My friend Sabrina should have birthdays more often. Seriously.

Friday night John and I stayed in and had a lovely dinner, I beat him at a few hands of Cribbage which is UNHEARD of. John has some kind of secret card talent and always manages to get the cards he wants. I think he should go to Vegas and play poker, but he says gambling would ruin his card magic mojo. Could be true. Maybe I’m just trying to get him to Vegas. Huh.

Saturday a group of peeps went to our new karaoke place. I’m not even going to mention the name of it, because I don’t want everyone in the world going to our new karaoke place. But suffice it to say, it is the best place for karaoke ever. If you really want to know which place it is, you can post in comments and tell me what you would sing if you went there. Then maybe I'll tell you the name of the place.

Everything was jiving this particular night, great groups of people, all disparate, not everyone knew each other, but it all just ended up vibing really well. There was some great singing, some horrible singing and a raucous conga/marching line when Harp broke out Consider Yourself. There was dancing and drinking, about equal amounts of both and it was just one of those exceptionally fun evenings you can never plan, they just…happen.

Yesterday we went to Hamburger Mary’s for breakfast. Boo. We’ve had good food there in the past but yesterday made us feel icky. John was a little under the weather anyway so he and I decided to not move from the couch. Here is what I learned:

1. I learned that the writing of Jodi Picoult is quite similar to the writing of Audrey Niffenegger; although I think Jodi Picoult is a much better writer. I just finished Nineteen Minutes, Picoults new book and I absolutely ate it. I ate it! These two women have this same sense of manipulation. The books are so “crafted”, so plot driven. It ends up being about how everything fits together instead of beautiful sentences. But I guess I like that, because even though I know I’m being used, I love it. Plus, some of Picoult’s writing has made me cry a tear or two just from being beautiful writing. So…she wins.

2. The book The Eiger Sanction is a bajillion times better than the movie. Everyone was beautifully cast besides Mr. Clint Eastwood.

3. The Pussycat Dolls TV show rules. Sorry everyone, but it does.

4. Everyone is right, Friday Night Lights is one of the best shows on TV. I watched my first ever episode last night and I cried about 50 different times. Okay, maybe I've been doing a lot of media crying lately, but the fact is, I've never watched this show and was immediatly drawn in. Looking forward to the next one.

5. The Amazing Race is so insanely boring that I didn’t even finish watching this two hour presentation last night. I will, but the All Stars they picked could not be more uninteresting. Where are the hippies? Where are Jonathan and Victoria? Hell even one-legged Sarah and her HORRIBLE doctor? I just don’t even care who wins, but don’t tell me who finally got kicked off last night. I’m just hoping it’s not the Cha Chas, because they’re the only team I’m rooting for at this point.

Hey, if you feel like setting your Tivo’s, feel free to set them to see Talkin’ Funny tomorrow night on cable access. I’ll be on it! I’ll post a clip though too.

Also, I have another dental poop on Thursday and will be at home nursing yet another empty hole in my mouth. We just returned a bunch of Netflix and John said I could get whatever I wanted!

Suggest to me if you will, a couple of things to rent on the Flix. I was thinking the final season of Alias and the first season of Veronica Mars. Any other suggestions?

Want to see what the last, two horrible weeks were like in Hitler's bunker before he shot himself and had his corpse burned?

Of course, you do.

Rent "Downfall".

Fucking.
Brilliant.

MH,

I think you can watch old FNL eps at NBC.com. Check it out!

oooh thanks Sammy, that's a great idea!

Mr.B...really? You think Hitler would be good when one is losing a tooth? I dunno...

Good Luck with your chompers!!
I hate that I missed out on yet another performance of "Consider Yourself". One day I'll experience this...

Curse of the WereRabbit is great, as is Flushed Away...both are mindless and fun, so you don't have to feel good to watch them. Those are my picks.

I really liked "Half Nelson" with Ryan Gosling.

Have you been watching "Friday Night Lights" on NBC or Bravo? Bravo seems to repeat them pretty often ...
