There comes a time in every awesome person's life when they get knocked down a peg or two. You’re flying high, you’re Icarus cruising towards the sun and BOOM, your wings start melting and you feel like a butthead, a Greek, flying, waxy-winged butthead.
This weekend was one of those weekends. And I reminded myself throughout, it’s not the fall that gets you, it’s how you handle the fall. Because everyone fucks up, everyone talks out of their butts (don’t they?) and everyone makes stupid mistakes. So I’ve decided to lay a bit low for awhile, keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself and work my butt off on a multitude of things I need to take care of and go about my merry way.
Besides that, it was a really nice weekend eh?
Friday night was low and quiet, a nice dinner with John at the sushi place. I personally don’t eat sushi, so I spent the dinner flinging my chicken teriyaki around with chopsticks because I was too embarrassed to ask for a fork. I know I know, I’m that girl at the sushi place, so sue me.
Saturday I got up early to go to the movies with mom. We saw Fracture with Mr. Hopkins, it was pretty good. Better than most crappy movies.
Saturday night was a whirlwind tour as the Hixx had many places to be. First off, some Guitar Hero with some friends, after a few months of not playing, I did pretty well. Quite an enjoyable party, good times, good people, good game playing. Then off to a lesbian filmmaking fundraiser at the best karaoke bar in the city. And let me tell you something (now that I’m keeping my opinions to myself, I thought I’d expound on gay women, brilliant), I’m learning much about the lesbian community because one of my best friends has come out to the world, yelling and screaming I might add. She’s having the time of her life and its great fun to be a part of. I definitely had some stereotyping going on, for sure. I had the classic image in my head, older, short hair, do I dare say “butch”? Well, when I walked into the best karaoke bar in the city, I was shocked to find the most beautiful women in Chicago dancing and having the best time. Men, if you’re wondering where all the beautiful, smart women are, they’re lesbians. Sorry, but it’s true. It's so great to see a whole community you just never really knew much about.
Then off to meet my man at the Town Hall for some down home beers and some good conversation. Yesterday consisted of me sitting in the sun, playing with the dog and not doing an improv show.
All in all, a good weekend, I’m feeling a bit fragile, a bit stupid, but also motivated to work hard, do my own thing, and stop worrying about the next time I put my foot in my ass, mouth or anywhere else it doesn’t belong.
