Anniversary

I did something for myself today that is better than everything I have done for myself ever. I have started to take care of a personal issue that has plagued me for the past 10 or so years; something that wakes me up and keeps me up so early in the morning. I cannot begin to express the change this is going to make in my life. Truly, more than any other thing I have done for myself ever.

I don’t mean to be so secretive about it, what I mean to say here is: If you have something that is plaguing you and out of fear you have done nothing to make it better, just do whatever it takes to make it better, trust me, you will be so happy you did.

ANYWAY, I want to celebrate a little something here on my blog. It’s an anniversary of sorts, that really should be tomorrow, but tomorrow is Survivor Recap Friday and that cannot be changed!

This weekend is the year anniversary of getting Remo.

The third best thing I’ve ever done for myself ever (preceded of course by falling in love with John).

John and I will still marvel sometimes as we’re sitting in our living room that we have this living, breathing animal just hanging out with us. I think about the first day we saw our sweet pup, we took him to play in the pound yard, throwing balls at him that he just let fly by, he didn’t want to play ball, he wanted to play with us. I think about picking him up at the pound the next day, he was all loopy from getting his manliness cut off and he was so sweet.

The first night and the whining and the crying.

And then realizing eventually how lucky we were, to find this wonderful dog. He barely barks, was housebroken in a week, he’s happy as can be, and he’s one of the best cuddlers on the planet, digging his snout in deeper and deeper into your lap to get maximum benefit.

I love the way his middle wiggles when he walks, completely independent from the rest of his body.

I love that we barely call him Remo, but call him Buddy, Little Man, Tummy Rub Jones and Banjo.

I love the way his face is like black velvet, and just as soft.

I love that John loves him so much, and Remo thinks John is a God.

I love that he makes us a little family now.

I love lying with him in the morning, whispering secrets and wishes into his ears and smiling into his brown eyes.

I love that dog with everything that I am and I am so glad he’s here with us. I’m so glad we picked him, so glad he picked us and I promise to make sure he’s well protected and well loved for as long as we get to be with him.

YAY DOGGIES!

Congratulations on the dog-aversary and especially on quitting meth!

(I'm assuming that's something that keeps people up nights and really messes with sleep patterns)

We could have a Chicagoist dog party with Remo, Emmy, Betty the Beagle, and Bootsie that just might be as decadent as the Happy Hours.

I definitely like the idea of a Chicagoist doggy party. Now that would be fun.

We could play doggy flip cup!

And yes, doggies do make everything awesome.
