Now that the emergency of dog is over, and I’ve learned my lesson on things both alive and dead, let us please turn our attention to the most pressing of issues, the thing that is really important, and the thing important enough to take my mind of my bird-murdering dog, and move forward, onward.
Television.
With sweeps and finales, TV is starting to wind down, which is a good thing for someone like me, who plans my life around the television, ignoring both friends and family members in the name of Survivor.
But let us start not with Survivor, but with American Idol. I realize it is not over yet, but for many in America, it is finished, and was finished with the premature ejaculation of Mr. Chris Daughtry. I only watch AI so I know what everyone is talking about. I like to know what is happening in the world of pop culture, and this is it at its best. But it is no secret that I flip between that and America’s Next Top Model (because there is no way I could watch that on Wednesday nights, too much happening). I like Taylor fine-plus I like his last name-but the presence of McPhee is enough to annoy even the most casual of AI fans. So with the removal of Chris “I’m hot, but you never would have guessed it if you fell over me in the street” Daughtry, I hope to see Taylor Hicks as America’s Idol, mostly cause he has gray hair.
On to the even more depressing finale of Survivor. An interesting season, but one of the most anti-climactic finishes I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot, remember, I’m almost 36. To have Aras win the money, was the lesser of two evils by far. Danielle was, as John put it, “pretty till she opens her mouth” and not even when she started talking, but literally, when she opened her mouth. Boo. I wanted Cerie, because she would have been the most unlikely Survivor ever, and I loved that she learned so much, and I love that she played the game, and got so close. Yes, Terry should have won too, but we all expected him to win, and that, in reality TV, is no fun.
On to the saving grace of this season (at least with reality TV, 24 is the saving grace of all television this year), and that is the Amazing Race. I’ve never quite forgiven them for screwing Rob and Ambah out of the winnings, there is no doubt they would have won if AR had not allowed the black couple on the plane. But this year, who should have won are the people that did win, and that is the Hippies. They were positive, they were friendly, they were humble, they were confident, their karma was straight up, and they deserved every penny they won.
Amazing Race has given me faith to go on, to continue to watch my reality shows (I’m still waiting for Top Chef, but am assuming Harold wins, if he doesn’t, watch me blow), and to have faith that the right thing will happen.
Go Hicks, go Hippies, Go Cerie.
YAY FRIDAY!
