Wanna be like Mike

Eating right is hard.

I’m doing better, but it is dang hard.

There’s this whole article in the Red Eye (I really don’t like the Red Eye, although I now read it every day, just in case there’s something I need to see. It’s amazing how writing for a newsy website makes you start looking at the news) about how fast food is changing its marketing and menus.

They talked a lot about some Chicken Club at Arby’s or Mickey D’s or whatever. The thing is fried for godsakes, then the fries, I mean, come on, why not just get a Big Mac? Mmmmm, big mac.

I eat at the Mart every day. Yes I know, I could bring my lunch, and tend to do that more in the summer when I can just sit outside, but if I want to eat out, it’s pretty much the Mart for me. I’ve tried each and every place there and have found little ways around the bad food calling.

Here are some things I’ve learned and some things I need to work on:

1. Blot the grease off of pizza, just do it with a napkin. It helps. Maybe not a ton, but each little bit counts right?
2. Kind of an obvious one, but no fries. They make it so easy to just add ‘em on, but don’t.
3. Fast food salads suck, I don’t know what to do about this.
4. Take out the food you don’t want. For example, the BLT sandwich at Arby’s is okay, the bread is good and it tastes pretty alright. Take the excess bacon off (they really do give you too much) and tell them light on the mayo yes?
5. Another obvious one, but choose the chicken over the beef as much as possible.
6. Get brown rice if possible, its good!
7. Why didn’t someone tell me I liked yogurt? It’s delicious!
8. Oh, and those pudding packs, delicious too, only 100 calories.
9. DO NOT GET THE GRILLED CHEESE AT BILLY GOAT AND SOP UP THE CHEESE WITH YOUR FRENCH FRIES. This will not help you.
10. Go to the gym, and if you do not, walk. Anything.
11. Watching TV burns LESS calories then if you just sat and stared at the wall. This one’s a shocker.
12. Eat cereal, perfect for nightime munchies.

So as you can tell, I need to head back to the gym and get back on track. Life has been crazy for a few weeks, but its calming down and I need to do the deed. Plus, summer is coming, it is, and Hixx needs to firm up, tune in, tune out and eat in.
