It has begun snowing and it is beautiful. I love the snow. One of the redeeming qualities of winter.
So far so good for a Thursday.
Here is what I’ve accomplished so far today:
1. Sweet talked the CEO of my real estate development firm, telling him about my docenting in a very subtle way. He seemed impressed, although would never say so.
2. Learned a new project at work. There are papers all over my desk and I love it.
3. Had lunch with my brother that helped to clear my head and keep me proud.
Okay, that’s 3 things, but that’s not bad. And the day is not over yet. I still have a Survivor pool to catch up on and a laptop to actually start writing on, instead of playing games on.
I bought myself a Writers Digest magazine last night and really enjoyed it on a number of levels. John expressed chagrin at me reading a writing magazine. But I told him it was like someone giving you a “want” before you step on stage to improvise. Something to think about and focus on when you get out there.
It was fun cause it was new. It was fun because there were opportunities on there that looked neat. There’s all kinds of “lingo” I don’t understand, “query letters” and “MSS” and “Kill percentages”.
I had a friend once who worked for Oprah (he’s still my friend actually!) and he told me that if you can write a decent letter, you can probably get on, because most people can’t do it.
I was thinking about this in terms of writing last night. Because from the little I’ve read and heard, it is absolutely up to you to “sell” your book to publishers and editors etc. I would guess a lot of writers would not be very good at that.
This is where I would have an advantage. I think I could get myself in, talking to people and selling myself pretty easily.
Now, I just have to write something.
The hard part.

We have a high speed connection but my computer is so ancient it seems like it's old dial up. You must be thrilled! Also check out www.qbp.com it is a great book club and once you are a member long enough they stop comitting you to send in the stupid monthly crap to reply to. You can buy one book for full price and get all the rest for half off with free shipping offers from time to time (which is when I always buy a lot.)
