Okie Dokie

Okay, so last night I went to see Movieoke at the Playground Theater (www.the-playground.com). I knew a bunch of boys were playing in it and I figured I was in for a night of watching boys do their favorite scenes from movies, which is not bad really when you think about it.

Alas, I was surprised.

There were probably about 10 people in the audience who had read our mini review in the Red Eye and on Metromix, so these people were ready to play! The first guy gets up, takes a good 7 minutes to get ready, which in the dark can be a long time. We waited, patiently, wondering what the heck was going on.

The lights come up and this guy launches into one of the best renditions of The Godfather I’ve ever seen.

BUT!

BUT! He does it with masks, like puppets, and they are hilarious and beautiful and scary and awesome. He had it memorized (the regular “movieoke” players use scripts, or the captioning from a dvd). But this guy, this guy had it totally memorized and watching his masks, through the candlelight he had set up, let me just say…it was honestly art. It was beautiful and hilarious and deep and wonderful. I was completely taken away for 8 minutes. Truly lovely.
Then I saw some pretty hilarious scenes from Terminator 2 (this one was especially funny) a horrible rendition of the “I’m just a misfit” song from the old Burl Ives claymation stuff, and an awesome hobbling scene from Misery, where the plastic Spiderman bat broke in the middle.

I highly recommend Movieoke, Wednesday nights…I even have a little monologue planned for next week.

Tonight I go test the new game “Shaolin Monks” for a friend of mine at Midway. I get pizza and get 20$ and hopefully the knowledge that I’m the only 34 year old woman in Chicago testing out games.

Then tomorrow is Friday and I go to Vegas at 4 in the morning Saturday morning with my heavily bearded but VERY handsome boyfriend.

I love being me sometimes.
